Veteran actor Shin Goo (real name Shin Soonki) has lost his wife.
Shin Goo's wife, Ha Jeongsuk, passed away on July 2. She was 87 years old.
The funeral is being held in Room 30 of the Seoul Asan Medical Center Funeral Hall. Shin Goo, whose real name is Shin Soonki, is listed as chief mourner along with his son and daughter-in-law, and it has been reported that he is keeping vigil at the funeral with his family.
The funeral procession will take place at 5:20 a.m. on July 4, and the burial site is Gwangneung Memorial Park.
Shin Goo and his late wife were married in 1974 and spent over 50 years together. Having started as a theater actor, Shin Goo married at the relatively late age of 39 after dating for six years due to financial difficulties at the time.
Shin Goo has previously expressed his affection for his wife on several television programs. He said, "I met my wife through an introduction and was so taken with her that I pursued her," and added, "I am grateful to my wife, who has stood by me from the days when we had little until now."
Born in 1936, Shin Goo made his debut in 1962 with the play "Cow" and has worked in the Korean theater and broadcasting industry for over 60 years. He appeared in dramas such as "Water Pattern," "Hope," "Ruler of Your Own World," "Sangdooya, Let's Go to School," and "I'm Sorry, I Love You." In the recently released film "Hi Five," he played the role of the cult leader Youngchun.
He also received great love for his appearances in the variety show series "Grandpas Over Flowers," and has remained active by touring nationwide with the play "Waiting for Godot."
