On July 2, at Haesol Elementary School in Sangnok-gu, Ansan City held a joint school zone child traffic safety campaign called the "On-Ansan Relay Campaign." The event was attended by over 100 people, including Mayor Lee Mingeun, the Ansan Sangnok Police Station, the Ansan Office of Education, the Sangnok Green Mothers' Association, the Ansan Robocop Patrol, and parents.
During the campaign, Mayor Lee personally took part as a school route guardian, guiding students on pedestrian safety rules such as stopping before crossing, obeying traffic signals, and not using smartphones while walking. In addition, he promoted school zone safety guidelines to parents and drivers, including coming to a complete stop, observing speed limits, and refraining from illegal parking.
Differing from previous approaches, this campaign featured participants dressed as heroes, acting as school route guardians to capture the interest and attention of children.
Mayor Lee stated, "A hero is not a special person, but all of us who keep our promises to each other," and added, "The city will continue to conduct joint campaigns to achieve zero traffic accidents in school zones."
The city plans to expand this event into a relay-style participatory campaign involving all citizens. City council members, public institutions, businesses, schools, and students will all be encouraged to participate by uploading and sharing campaign certification photos on social networking services (SNS).
Through these efforts, the city aims to foster widespread public awareness of child safety and to help establish a culture of school zone safety throughout society.
Alongside the campaign, the city also plans to carry out a facility improvement project for child protection zones at 20 elementary schools, including Hodong, Seoksu, and Byeolmang Elementary Schools. This project will equip each school with advanced school zone safety facilities such as LED floor traffic lights, anti-slip pavement, runway-style delineator posts, and red-green remaining time indicators.
Mayor Lee emphasized, "We will continue to implement citizen-participatory safety campaigns and customized traffic safety policies to build a 'leading city of safety culture' where all citizens can live with peace of mind."
