Gyeonggi Province Relocates "Gyeonggi Province Immigration and Social Integration Support Center" to Uijeongbu City

Strengthening Support for Stable Settlement and Social Integration of Immigrants
Opening Ceremony of the "Gyeonggi Province Immigration and Social Integration Support Center"
Support Available in 10 Languages, Including Cambodian, Vietnamese, and Lao

On July 2, Gyeonggi Province opened the "Gyeonggi Province Immigration and Social Integration Support Center," embarking on efforts to strengthen support for the stable settlement and social integration of immigrants, including marriage migrants, foreign workers, international students, and overseas Koreans with foreign nationalities.

Located on the 2nd floor of the Northern Gyeonggi Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Uijeongbu City, the Gyeonggi Province Immigration and Social Integration Support Center is an expanded and reorganized version of the former Gyeonggi Province Foreigners’ Human Rights Support Center. The center has relocated from Ansan City (53.24㎡) to Uijeongbu City (766.96㎡), increasing its size by more than 14 times. The staff has also more than doubled, from 7 to 18 people (8 for center operations and 10 counselors), and multilingual counseling, which was previously unavailable, has now been newly introduced.


The center will broadly carry out activities such as resolving daily civil complaints?including legal and labor counseling, support projects, and provision of daily life information?through cooperation with immigrant support organizations in the province. It will also provide interpreter and translator training, capacity-building education for workers, and policy development.


Any immigrant in need of counseling can visit the center or call '1661-0222'. Support is available in 10 languages: Cambodian, Vietnamese, Lao, Thai, Uzbek, Russian, Filipino, Chinese, Mongolian, Myanmar, and English.


At the opening ceremony, Kim Wonkyu, Director of the Immigration and Social Affairs Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, gave a briefing on immigration policies established since the launch of the bureau and shared the direction of a comprehensive plan with the vision of "Gyeonggi Province Growing Together with Immigrants."


Under the four main goals of ▲governance, ▲immigration policy, ▲social integration, and ▲human rights protection, the province is pursuing 33 detailed tasks and plans to support immigrants so they can settle and grow as stable members of the local community.


After the opening ceremony, a panel discussion moderated by Lee Jasmine, Chairperson of the Korea Multicultural Diversity Organization (and former National Assembly member), brought together a variety of panelists?including marriage migrants, international students, and influencers?to discuss ways for immigrants and the local community to grow together.


Kim Daesoon, Second Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will continue to expand various support and programs so that the Gyeonggi Province Immigration and Social Integration Support Center can become a reliable partner for immigrants and the local community to grow together."


Meanwhile, about 100 people attended the opening ceremony, including Kim Daesoon, Second Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Moon Hyunggeun, Chairperson of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council’s Women, Family, and Lifelong Education Committee, as well as provincial council members, officials from related organizations, and representatives from immigrant organizations, to celebrate the new beginning of the center.
