Investigation as a 'Reference Witness' in Martial Law Cabinet Meeting Case
Han Ducksoo and Ahn Deokgeun Appeared Earlier That Morning
Special Prosecutor Solidifying Charges Ahead of Yoon's Summons
The special prosecutor's team led by Cho Eunseok, which is investigating the insurrection and treason cases related to the 12·3 Martial Law, summoned Yoo Sangim, Minister of Science and ICT, as a reference witness for questioning on July 2.
Minister Yoo appeared at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office at approximately 3:17 p.m. that day for the reference witness interview. When asked by reporters whether she had attended the Cabinet meeting during the martial law period, she replied, "No, I did not." In response to the question, "If you did not attend the Cabinet meeting, why did you appear before the special prosecutor?" she answered, "I was called as a reference witness, so I came."
She was also asked if she was aware that the special prosecutor was summoning Cabinet members who did not attend the meeting, to which she replied, "I don't know about others," before heading to the interview room.
The special prosecutor's team is expected to question Minister Yoo about the circumstances under which Cabinet members either attended or did not attend Cabinet meetings before and after the declaration of martial law. Minister Yoo did not attend the Cabinet meeting held just before the proclamation of martial law, but did attend the Cabinet meeting held early the following morning to lift martial law.
The special prosecutor's team appears to be working to solidify the charges ahead of the second round of questioning of former President Yoon, scheduled for July 5. On the morning of July 2, the team also summoned former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo and Industry Minister Ahn Deokgeun for questioning, and on June 30, former Presidential Secretary Kang Uigu was also summoned and questioned.
