Won Second Place in the Lottery, Received 65 Million Won
Spent All on Lottery, Horse Racing, and Sports Betting
Child Says, "I Never Received Any Help"
The story has emerged of a man who won second place in the lottery, received more than 60 million won, and yet died alone.
On July 1, estate organizer Saebyeol Kim appeared on the YouTube channel 'Eomtube', hosted by anchor Sangseop Eom. In response to the question, "What is an unhappy death?" Kim said, "I think it is the opposite of a happy death," and introduced the case of a deceased individual who died alone last year despite winning second place in the lottery.
Kim explained, "While organizing the house, I found a certificate from Nonghyup Bank showing that 65 million won had been withdrawn. I wondered why such a large amount had been received, and it turned out to be labeled as 'prize money.' Even though the deceased had won the lottery, I wondered why he had lived such a difficult and shabby life. In the end, all he could do with the winnings was to buy 2 million won worth of lottery tickets every week, bet on horse racing, and play sports betting. He spent all the money on those things."
Kim, who contacted the deceased's child, said, "The child even refused to claim the body," and added, "Upon hearing about the father's death, the child said, 'That is not my father. He is my biological father, but I have never received any help from him, and he never raised us. My mother earned all the money and raised us. He is only listed as our father on paper, so I cannot do anything.'"
In conclusion, Kim remarked, "If he had used the prize money to help his children even a little, perhaps he would not have faced such a difficult death," and added, "Just because he won the lottery, I wonder if he really lived a happy life or had a happy death," expressing a sense of sadness.
