"Contributing to Cultural Development" ... Changwon Special City Holds Cultural Awards Ceremony

On July 1, Changwon Special City held the 42nd Changwon City Cultural Awards ceremony at the Changwon Gymnasium in Changwon Sports Park.

This year’s Cultural Awards recognized winners in a total of five categories, including literature, arts, and sports. The judging process was conducted rigorously on June 10. At the ceremony, a total of eight individuals were honored, including seven in the main categories and one recipient of a special award in the youth category.


In the literature category, Kim Myeonghee was selected as the winner. As a former president of the Changwon Writers Association, Kim contributed to the development of literature in Changwon and was recognized for works themed around Changwon Special City.


In the sports category, Lee Jongho, executive advisor of the Gyeongnam Taekwondo Association, and Jeon Jinhyo, professor at Masan University, were selected. Lee Jongho has led efforts to mentor taekwondo juniors and discover new talent, while Jeon Jinhyo established an equestrian rehabilitation instructor program, contributing to rehabilitation for people with disabilities.


In the community development category, Choi Chungkyung, chairman of Gyeongnam Steel, was honored. He has led the Mecenat movement and made significant contributions to the community through dedicated volunteer activities.


In the arts category, Cho Hyeonpan was recognized for publishing the "Dictionary of Calligraphy Terms" and for contributions to the advancement of calligraphy. In particular, Choi Jaeyeon has worked as a Korean traditional dancer for over 30 years and has provided dance education to socially vulnerable groups.


In the education and media category, Lee Misook, professor at Changwon National University, was selected. She contributed by introducing student-centered teaching methods and advancing regional education.


The newly established Special Youth Award was presented to Choi Seongjin, CEO of Ttagadaga Art Company, in recognition of efforts to create jobs for young artists and improve the arts ecosystem.


Jang Geumyong, acting mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "I extend my gratitude and congratulations to all the awardees who have dedicated themselves to the culture and community of Changwon City," adding, "I hope this event enhances Changwon’s cultural pride and becomes a venue for unity among citizens."
