Former Division Commander Lim Sungkeun to Be Summoned for the First Time at 2 p.m.

The special prosecutor team led by Lee Myunghyun, investigating allegations of external pressure in the case of the death of Marine Chae, officially launched its investigation on July 2.

Jung Minyoung, special prosecutor, held a briefing at the special prosecutor's office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the same day and stated, "The investigation has commenced today. Unlike other special prosecutor cases, although this is a single major case, we have divided the team because collaboration and division of labor among investigators are necessary."
The special prosecutor team for Chae's case has divided the investigation into four teams. Team 1 is responsible for the death of Marine Chae, the injury case involving fellow Marines, and the occupational negligence resulting in death or injury case.
Team 2 will investigate allegations of lobbying for exoneration by former 1st Marine Division Commander Lim Sungkeun, as well as illegal acts such as abuse of authority by the Presidential Office during the appointment process of former Defense Minister Lee Jongseop as Ambassador to Australia. Both Team 1 and Team 2 will be overseen by Chief Prosecutor Kim Sungwon.
Team 3 will handle the investigation into allegations such as the so-called 'VIP rage rumor' and abuse of authority by former President Yoon Sukyeol. Team 4 will be solely responsible for maintaining the prosecution in the case of former Colonel Park's insubordination, which is currently ongoing at the Seoul High Court. Team 3 and Team 4 will be led by Chief Prosecutor Chun Daewon from Suwon District Prosecutors' Office and Lieutenant Colonel Shin Kangjae, respectively.
The special prosecutor team plans to summon former Division Commander Lim as a suspect for questioning at 2 p.m. on the same day. Jung Minyoung stated, "The questioning is scheduled for 2 p.m., and we expect former Division Commander Lim to appear at the special prosecutor's office around 1:40 p.m. Prosecutor Lim Sangkyu, who was the lead prosecutor at Daegu District Prosecutors' Office, will conduct the questioning."
He added, "While occupational negligence resulting in death or injury will be the main focus of the investigation, we also expect to cover several matters related to former Division Commander Lim. Although he has spoken to investigative agencies, the National Assembly, and the media on various occasions, we believe it is necessary for us to directly verify several matters with him, which is why he was selected as the first subject of questioning."
