Policy Forum Hosted by Lawmakers from Both Parties
"Support for Creating a Women-Friendly Environment"
The Women’s Economic Research Institute, affiliated with the Women Entrepreneurs Comprehensive Support Center, announced that it held a policy forum titled "Strengthening the Role of Women Entrepreneurs to Overcome Low Growth, Low Birthrate, and Aging Society" on July 2 at the National Assembly Library Auditorium in celebration of the 4th Women Entrepreneurs Week.
The forum was organized to explore ways to strengthen the role of women entrepreneurs and policy response measures amid the complex crises of population decline, low growth, and an aging society. The event was attended by Park Changsook, Chairperson of the Institute, Kim Wonyi, National Assembly member from the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Sungwon, National Assembly member from the People Power Party, Kim Seongseop, Vice Minister of SMEs and Startups, as well as representatives from related organizations, industry, and experts, totaling over 300 participants.

Kim Boraye, Director of the Women’s Economic Research Institute, delivered a presentation on "The Role of Women Entrepreneurs and Policy Tasks for Building a Sustainable Economic Society," diagnosing the current status of women entrepreneurs and the environments they face, such as work-life balance and support for childbirth and childcare, and proposed policy tasks that could contribute to sustainable growth.
Kim Hyoi, CEO of Inertia, presented on "Women, Technology, and Startups: From Doctoral Program to Femtech Company," sharing her motivations for technology-based entrepreneurship, the challenges between the ideals and realities of femtech startups, and her experiences managing a company as both a technology developer and CEO.
In the ensuing panel discussion, Min Sejin, professor at Dongguk University, served as the moderator. Panelists included Kang Munyoung, CEO of Haenaenda Company; Kim Sunwoo, Head of Center at the Science and Technology Policy Institute; Lee Seunghyun, Research Fellow at the Korean Women’s Development Institute; and Cho Hyejeong, Research Fellow at the Korea Small Business Institute. They shared a variety of opinions on ways to strengthen the role of women entrepreneurs in overcoming low growth, low birthrate, and aging society.
Kim Wonyi and Kim Sungwon, the National Assembly members who co-hosted the event, stated, "We will make active efforts at the National Assembly level to ensure that the tasks discussed today can be translated into practical policies."
Park Changsook, Chairperson of the Women’s Economic Research Institute, said, "I hope that today’s discussion will serve as a cornerstone for establishing effective support for women entrepreneurs," and added, "I look forward to this being an opportunity for women-led businesses to grow as key players in leading a new industrial ecosystem."
Kim Seongseop, Vice Minister of SMEs and Startups, stated, "We plan to expand support for women entrepreneurs across all stages, from discovery and nurturing to growth and advancement, to achieve both quantitative and qualitative growth. We will actively establish and implement policies to create a women-friendly environment, taking into account the on-site opinions shared at this policy forum."
