Busan Secures Future Vehicle Parts Competitiveness... City Selected for Future Technology-Led Project

Busan Selected for the "Giant Casting Shared Center Infrastructure Project" by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy
Aiming to Secure Competitiveness in Future Vehicle Parts and Foster Local Industry Innovation

Busan City has launched a large-scale infrastructure project aimed at securing competitiveness in future vehicle parts.

On July 2, Busan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced that it had been finally selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 2025 new automotive sector infrastructure project, the "Giant Casting Shared Center Infrastructure Project." This project is led by the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, with the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials participating as a joint research institution.

With this selection, the city will invest a total of 29 billion won (10 billion won from the national government and 19 billion won from the city budget) over five years from this year to 2029. The investment will be used to: △ establish the Giant Casting Shared Technology Support Center, △ build ultra-large-scale production facilities for future vehicle parts of 6,000 tons or more and related analysis and evaluation equipment, and △ promote exchange projects for corporate support and technology dissemination, including technology development, testing and evaluation, and prototype production.

The Giant Casting Shared Technology Support Center will provide technical support to help local parts companies develop ultra-large, integrated parts for future vehicles using the installed equipment. At the same time, it will strengthen its role as a core support platform to assist local parts manufacturers in transitioning to the future vehicle industry.

Under the leadership of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, joint projects for future vehicles and the training of specialized personnel will also be promoted. The city expects these efforts to advance and revitalize the local future vehicle industry ecosystem.

Previously, on April 29, during the 51st Emergency Economic Countermeasures Meeting presided over by Mayor Park, the city designated this project as a key task in the "Busan Automotive Industry Crisis Overcoming and Future Leap Response Strategy."

Mayor Park Hyungjoon emphasized, "Our city is steadily carrying out research and development and the construction of core infrastructure for the transition to the future vehicle industry," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to create a sustainable future vehicle industry ecosystem."
