Escape Room Game Created on KakaoTalk... Kakao Friends Collaborates with 'Squid Game 3'

Escape Room Game Utilizing Open Chatting
Over 23,000 Participants and Counting

On July 2, Kakao announced that it has launched an interactive content project called "Chunsik Game" in collaboration with the Netflix series "Squid Game Season 3," utilizing KakaoTalk and Kakao Friends intellectual property (IP). Chunsik is a KakaoTalk emoticon-based character that was first introduced in April 2021.


This game recreates the "Hide and Seek" episode from Squid Game Season 3 within various KakaoTalk services such as Open Chatting, # (Shop) Search, and Gift. By clicking on the "Chunsik Game" banner at the top of the Open Chatting tab, users can access a list of open chat rooms where they can participate in the game. Players advance to the next room by entering the correct answer to a quiz as a participation code in each room. After sequentially escaping from more than 10 open chat rooms and reaching the final room marked by a rainbow door, participants complete the final mission. Users who successfully make the final escape receive a "Final Escape Secret Reward," which includes a profile image for authentication and a Talk background wallpaper.

Since its release on June 30, Chunsik Game has gained popularity, with game hints and solutions being shared primarily on social networking services (SNS). As of July 1, the cumulative number of participants has exceeded 23,000, and more than 6,000 users have successfully completed the final escape.


Kakao has also released merchandise alongside the open chat-based escape room game. In collaboration with PNB Pungnyeon Bakery, the "Chunsik's Favorite Squid Game Choco Pie Set" is available exclusively through KakaoTalk Gift. Additionally, new plush keyrings "Chunhee" (Chunsik + Younghee) and "Chunsu" (Chunsik + Youngsoo), which were created to reflect the world of Squid Game Season 3, are also being sold.


This collaboration marks the second brand partnership following last year's "Squid Game Season 2." A Kakao representative stated, "We will continue to expand the collaborative scope of Kakao Friends IP through partnerships with global IPs in the future."
