Gwangju Donggu District announced on July 1 that "How Are You These Days?", a suicide prevention education program for young people, developed in-house by the Donggu Mental Health Welfare Center (Hanmaeumteo), recently received official certification in the re-evaluation conducted by the Korea Suicide Prevention Center of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
"How Are You These Days?", a life-saving education program developed by Donggu, consists of the following components: the current status of suicide among young people and risk factors for suicide; ways to detect warning signs of suicide and provide help; and six questions that encourage individuals to pay attention to themselves and those around them and to check in on their well-being.
"How Are You These Days?" is expected to contribute to suicide prevention and the promotion of mental health among young people, as it is actively utilized in education programs for residents and related organizations.
Hanmaeumteo developed "How Are You These Days?" in 2018 and obtained certification from the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Since then, the center has continuously trained life-saving instructors and operated a team of professional lecturers to promote and disseminate the program.
Lim Taek, head of Donggu District Office, stated, "With the revision of the Act on the Prevention of Suicide and the Creation of a Culture of Respect for Life last year, suicide prevention education has become mandatory in schools and public institutions. The 'How Are You These Days?' program is expected to enhance understanding of the complex psychological difficulties faced by young people and encourage greater attention from those around them, thereby making a practical contribution to suicide prevention."
