Governor Youngrok Kim Requests Inclusion of Key Regional Issues in National Policy Agenda to Policy Planning Committee Chairman

Requests include establishment of a national medical school and integration and relocation of Gwangju's civilian and military airports

Governor Youngrok Kim Requests Inclusion of Key Regional Issues in National Policy Agenda to Policy Planning Committee Chairman Youngrok Kim, Governor of Jeollanam-do.

On July 1, Youngrok Kim, Governor of Jeollanam-do, visited the National Policy Planning Committee and met with Chairman Hanju Lee to actively request that the new government's key policy tasks include Jeollanam-do's core regional issues.

As the third week since the launch of the National Policy Planning Committee began, and the selection of new government policy tasks and government organizational restructuring is accelerating, this visit was made because this moment is considered a golden opportunity to have regional issues reflected in national policy tasks.

The main proposals include: the establishment of a "National University Medical School" in Jeollanam-do, which currently has no medical school; the creation of the "Solaseado AI Energy New City"; the promotion of a mega project for the major transformation of the "petrochemical and steel industries"; the creation of an "AI Advanced Agro-Livestock Industry Convergence District"; the establishment of a space launch vehicle industry convergence cluster; and the expansion of an "ultra-wide-area transportation network" for the next 100 years. These are the core projects that Jeollanam-do considers top priorities to be included in the new government's policy agenda for the future development of the region.

In addition, support measures for the "integration and relocation of Gwangju's civilian and military airports," which was discussed as a major agenda item at the "Gwangju-Jeonnam Town Hall Meeting" recently attended by President Jaemyung Lee, were also proposed.

Governor Youngrok Kim stated, "Jeollanam-do is fully prepared to implement government policies as the optimal location for AI and renewable energy industries, which the new government is strategically promoting," and requested strong cooperation and interest to ensure that Jeollanam-do's future development projects are included in the national policy agenda.

Since July 4, Jeollanam-do has been operating a "New Government Policy Task Force" led by Governor Youngrok Kim. In order to have regional issues reflected in the national policy agenda, all staff, including division and bureau heads, are working together to carry out comprehensive proposal activities targeting central government ministries, the National Assembly, and the National Policy Planning Committee.
