Gyeonggi Fire Department Strengthens Rewards for Reporting Illegal Acts Such as Emergency Exit Closures

The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters will operate the "Emergency Exit and Other Illegal Activities Reporting Reward System" with increased intensity in order to eradicate illegal acts such as the closure of emergency exits in multi-use facilities.

Under this reward system, anyone can report acts such as blocking emergency exits or stacking objects to obstruct passage in places like retail facilities, lodging facilities, and hospitals. After verification, a reward of up to 300,000 won is paid. However, each individual can receive rewards up to five times per month.

To enhance the effectiveness of the system, the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters is strengthening a dual response system that combines on-site crackdowns with citizen reports.

In fact, since implementing the dual response system, there has been an increase in the detection of violations such as the installation of door stoppers on emergency exits, the closure and locking of emergency doors, and the stacking of objects in passageways.

The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters plans to encourage public participation through targeted promotions for each type of facility, online campaigns, and coordination with on-site responses.

Kim Jaebyeong, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "Blocking emergency exits is not simply carelessness, but an act of closing the door to life," adding, "We will encourage public participation through various channels, including promotional activities, to eradicate illegal acts."
