'Korean House' to Undergo Remodeling Until March 2 Next Year

Major Renovation After 45 Years
Main and Annex Buildings to Be Newly Refurbished

The National Heritage Promotion Agency announced on July 1 that the traditional cultural complex 'Korean House' will undergo remodeling until March 2 of next year. This is a major renovation for the first time in about 45 years, during which the main hanok building and the annex will be newly refurbished, and the landscaping of the outdoor garden will be improved. Facilities will also be added to enhance convenience while preserving the beauty of traditional hanok architecture. The scheduled reopening date is March 3 of next year.

During the construction period, the National Heritage Promotion Agency will suspend restaurant operations and traditional wedding services. However, the 'Korean Cuisine Academy,' a Korean food education program conducted by Korean House and renowned domestic chefs, will continue to operate regularly. Work to prepare new menus by exploring local ingredients will also proceed as planned. Lee Gwiyeong, Director of the National Heritage Promotion Agency, stated, "This is a process of preparing for the future of Korean House and the direction of Korean cuisine," adding, "We will present a distinguished traditional food culture in the future."

Korean House was established in 1957 by the Presidential Public Information Office as a guesthouse for VIPs. Since its complete reconstruction in the style of Korean architecture, it has been used as a space to enjoy traditional food and Korean culture.
