The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has prepared a revision to the "Ordinance on Support for Litigation Costs Related to the Duties of Public Officials Affiliated with the Gyeonggi Provincial Superintendent of Education."
The amendment includes, for the first time nationwide, a provision that allows support for attorney fees when a faculty member who has suffered harm from a crime during the legitimate performance of their duties appears as a witness or in another capacity in the perpetrator's criminal trial.
This ordinance revision reflects both the operational experience of the "Gyeonggi Edu-Keeper Legal Support System," newly established last year by Superintendent Lim Taehee, and a wide range of feedback from the field.
The Office of Education has completed the legislative notice through the Gyeonggi-do Gazette and its official website, and after finalizing the legislative bill through a review by the legal affairs department on July 2, plans to implement the revised ordinance in August following approval by the Gyeonggi Provincial Council within this month.
An official from the Office of Education stated, "This ordinance revision is intended to help ensure that faculty members are not subjected to secondary harm from legal issues and can focus on their educational activities," adding, "We will make every effort to ensure that all faculty members are legally protected anytime and anywhere, and will focus on building a robust legal safety net so that everyone can concentrate on education with peace of mind from the very beginning to the conclusion of any legal dispute."
Additionally, the Office of Education has expanded the Gyeonggi Education attorney pool to 337 members this year, and has further strengthened the legal support system for faculty by developing legal support training and producing promotional materials.
