The initiative seeks to enhance the comprehensive treatment capabilities of general hospitals so they can respond quickly to a wide range of diseases and emergencies in local communities, and to normalize the healthcare delivery system.

Hospitals selected as comprehensive secondary general hospitals receive various administrative and financial support from the government to strengthen their capacity to provide essential medical services.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare selected 175 general hospitals nationwide, comprehensively considering factors such as medical infrastructure and regional accessibility. Daegu Dongsan Hospital met all selection criteria, including acute care hospital certification, designation as a regional emergency medical institution, and the ability to provide more than 350 types of surgeries and procedures, and was thus included as a designated institution.

Jung Woojin, director of the hospital, stated, "This selection will be a turning point for Daegu Dongsan Hospital to further elevate its comprehensive treatment capabilities within the region." He added, "We will continue to strengthen the organic cooperation system between hospitals and clinics, and solidify the essential medical infrastructure so that local residents can receive timely medical services even in emergencies."
