Arrest and Referral of Nationwide Thief in His 50s by Gangjin Police
Suspect Accused of 39 Counts of Theft Totaling 13 Million Won
A man in his 50s who had been traveling across the country committing thefts has been apprehended by the police.
On July 1, the Gangjin Police Station in South Jeolla Province announced that they had arrested and referred Mr. A (58) to the prosecution on charges of theft under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
Mr. A is accused of stealing a total of 13 million won in cash in 39 separate incidents nationwide from 2023 to the present, including stealing 120,000 won from a store in Gangjin County in August 2024.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A had previously served time for nighttime burglary two years ago, and after being released, committed these crimes to cover his living expenses.
It was found that after each crime, Mr. A used public transportation to move to other regions in order to evade police pursuit.
A police official stated, "After closing for the day, store owners should carefully secure their premises," adding, "If you plan to leave your store unattended for an extended period, such as during a vacation, requesting increased police patrols can be an effective measure."
