Prestigious Status as Leading Asian Design School Reaffirmed
Hoseo University in South Chungcheong Province (President Kang Ilgu) announced on the 1st that students from its Department of Industrial Design have won two Winner awards in the Concept Design category at the world's most prestigious international design competition, the Red Dot Design Award in Germany.
The Red Dot Design Award is organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. It is a global design competition that selects winners based on a comprehensive evaluation of creativity, innovation, and user-centered design across three categories: Product, Communication, and Concept Design.
The works that received the Winner award this time are: "SNAP SYNC," a newtro-inspired camera design by students Lim Jeongeun and Jung Hyejun, and "Vibe-U," a traffic safety belt design for the elderly by students Lee Jaeyong and Park Seungjun.
"SNAP SYNC" is a camera design that combines the warmth unique to analog with the convenience of digital technology. It was highly praised by the judges for achieving a harmony between emotion and technology.
"Vibe-U" is a practical design for a safety belt with built-in sensors that detects the movements and dangerous situations of elderly users and provides warnings, attracting significant attention.
Professor Doh Han-Young of the Department of Industrial Design said, "This is the result of the students' dedication, even giving up their winter vacation to pursue their passion," adding, "Consistent achievements at international design awards demonstrate the competitiveness of Hoseo University's design education."
Meanwhile, the Department of Industrial Design at Hoseo University has established itself as a prestigious design school by consistently achieving results at leading global design awards every year.
Last year, the university won the 'Best of the Best,' the highest honor at the Red Dot Design Award, and also stood out by receiving Winner awards for three works at the Spark Design Award in the United States.
In particular, in 2017, the university ranked fifth among universities in the Asia-Pacific region based on Red Dot award records, proving its international standing.
