Korea Energy Engineering University (KENTECH) announced on July 1 that it had signed a mutual cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea Electric Power Corporation on June 30 regarding the operation of the Advanced Grid Modeling Center (AGM Center).
This MOU was established to jointly create and operate the AGM Center, which will carry out advanced power system modeling. Based on this, the two organizations aim to strengthen real-system-based analytical capabilities, foster professional talent, and build a collaborative ecosystem among related institutions. The purpose is to proactively respond to the increasing uncertainty and complexity of power systems, which is being driven by the expansion of renewable energy and the proliferation of distributed power sources.
Under the agreement, the two parties plan to pursue collaborative projects in various areas, including the joint development and comparative verification of power system analysis models, the joint operation of educational programs for practitioners, and the hosting of industry-academia-research technology forums.
KENTECH will take the lead in developing real-system-based analysis models such as OPEN-EGO and KPG-193, while Korea Electric Power Corporation will provide power grid data and technical advice, thereby enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of power system analysis.
Kim Jip, a professor at KENTECH and the director of the AGM Center, stated, "We will advance real-system-based analysis models centered on the AGM Center and strengthen an integrated system operation framework based on modeling by organically linking these models with the industrial field."
Park Jin-ho, acting president of KENTECH, said, "With this agreement, the two organizations will establish a practical cooperation system encompassing technology, policy, and talent, and we expect this to make a significant contribution to improving the reliability and transparency of power system analysis in the future."
