According to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, the number of Taiwanese visitors entering Korea steadily increased in the first quarter of this year, ranking third among all foreign visitors to Korea. Of these, 89.8% visited for leisure, entertainment, or relaxation, indicating a particularly high proportion of travel-related visits. Sales to Taiwanese customers at Lotte Duty Free ranked fourth after China, Korea, and Japan, and grew by approximately 30% compared to the same period last year, highlighting the growing importance of Taiwanese customers.
Lotte Duty Free will introduce the LINE Pay Taiwan payment service in July to further enhance payment convenience and satisfaction for Taiwanese customers. LINE Pay Taiwan is a leading mobile payment service used by more than half of Taiwan's population. It is a comprehensive platform that not only offers payment functions but also provides merchant information and financial content.
Lotte Duty Free will also run a special promotion for LINE Pay Taiwan users until September 30. Depending on the purchase amount at all downtown offline stores, customers can receive up to 350,000 KRW worth of additional LDF PAY. In addition, Lotte Duty Free will be introduced within the LINE Pay Taiwan platform, and the company plans to actively promote the inflow of Taiwanese tourists by linking seasonal events, popular products, and store information.
Lotte Duty Free plans to continue strengthening the convenience of duty-free shopping and providing a wide range of benefits to customers by introducing new payment methods and collaborating with various payment companies. In May, the company launched special benefits for Chinese customers in partnership with Daiso and WeChat Pay, which received a strong response.
Choi Mihwa, head of the FIT Marketing Team at Lotte Duty Free, stated, "With the steady increase in Taiwanese tourists visiting Korea recently, we expect that the introduction of this new payment method will further enhance customer convenience," adding, "We will continue to improve our infrastructure and services to provide the optimal shopping environment that satisfies our customers."
