Yoo Jaesung, New Acting Commissioner of the National Police Agency: "Policy Direction Solely Focused on the Public"

"Placing the Fundamental Value on Protecting the Constitution in Our Work"

Yoo Jaesung, the new acting commissioner of the National Police Agency, stated, "We will set and implement the policy direction of the National Police Agency with a sole focus on the public, by fully listening to the perspectives of citizens as policy stakeholders and processing matters promptly. However, for aspects that are difficult to implement, we will provide sufficient explanations."

At his inauguration ceremony on the afternoon of June 30, Acting Commissioner Yoo said, "In a security environment that is more uncertain than ever, there are limits to securing the lives and safety of the people through the police's efforts alone. Therefore, please work to strengthen communication between government ministries and also cooperate among internal functions."

At the plenary session of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee on the same day, Acting Commissioner Yoo said, "As a public servant for all citizens, I will uphold fairness and neutrality and base my work on the fundamental value of protecting the constitutional order." He added, "Because I am well aware of both the concerns and expectations that the public has toward the police, I feel a grave sense of responsibility and duty, rather than the joy of promotion."

Regarding the staff who faced personnel disadvantages after holding the so-called 'Senior Superintendent Meeting' in protest against the establishment of the Police Bureau within the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in July 2022, Acting Commissioner Yoo said, "I plan to come up with and pursue measures to restore their honor," and added, "We will need to review whether disciplinary actions can be canceled."

Jo Jiho, the commissioner of the National Police Agency, who was indicted on charges of blocking members of the National Assembly from entering the National Assembly during the period of martial law, is currently suspended from duty due to impeachment proceedings.
