Jeonnam Office of Education Successfully Concludes "Korean Culture Presentation Contest" in LA

Held for Middle and High School Students
Enrolled in Korean Language Classes
at Regular Schools in the United States

The "Korean Culture Presentation Contest I Love," jointly hosted by the Jeonnam Office of Education and the LA Korean Education Center in Los Angeles, USA, concluded successfully.

On June 30, the Jeonnam Office of Education announced, "The contest, held on June 28 (local time), was organized for middle and high school students enrolled in Korean language classes at regular schools in the United States. The event featured passionate presentations from students who expressed Korean culture from diverse perspectives."

This was the second time the event was held, following last year. Students who advanced to the finals through preliminary screening gave presentations on topics such as Dokdo, Buchaechum (traditional fan dance), and dialects, each incorporating their own experiences and interpretations. The presentations were structured around storytelling, fostering empathy with the audience and drawing significant interest from local educators.

The judging was based on presentation skills, content organization, and originality. Outstanding presenters received scholarships and certificates of merit.

Kang Jeonhun, Director of the LA Korean Education Center, said, "I was deeply moved to see the students express their affection and interest in Korean culture in creative and persuasive ways." He added, "This contest served as an opportunity to reaffirm the value and potential of the Korean language and Korean language education."

The Jeonnam Office of Education and the LA Korean Education Center also plan to implement a "Teacher Class Exchange Program" in September, where teachers from Jeonnam will conduct Korean culture classes at elementary and secondary schools in the United States. The teachers will deliver lessons tailored to the local curriculum and seek to expand pedagogical exchanges and educational cooperation.

The provincial office of education expects that this international education program will serve as a foundation for the globalization of the Korean language and culture, and as an opportunity to expand into a sustainable model of educational cooperation between Korea and the United States.

Kim Daejung, Superintendent of Education, said, "I hope this contest will become not just a competition, but an educational platform that fosters cultural understanding and expressive abilities." He added, "We will continue to work closely with the LA Korean Education Center to ensure that Korean culture takes deep root in the hearts of overseas students."
