Sejong City Administration under Choi Minho Earns Grade A in Safety Policy Sector

Ranked First in the National Police Agency's Perceived Safety Survey

Sejong City Administration under Choi Minho Earns Grade A in Safety Policy Sector

On June 30, the Sejong City Government announced that, since the launch of its fourth administration, it has prioritized citizens' lives and safety by implementing a variety of disaster safety policies, which have been recognized with achievements in national competitions and credible evaluations.

Last year, Sejong City received the highest grade, Grade A, in the "Comprehensive Regional Safety Evaluation for Natural Disasters" announced by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The city earned excellent marks in disaster prevention measures and maintenance of preventive facilities, demonstrating its outstanding disaster prevention capabilities in the event of natural disasters.

In particular, last year, Sejong City ranked second among special and metropolitan cities in the Regional Safety Index, having achieved the top grade in three out of six categories: fire, crime, and suicide. The Regional Safety Index is a highly credible evaluation system that quantitatively assesses the safety level of citizens in each city and province. Achieving the top grade in three categories indicates that Sejong is among the safest regions in the country.

This year, Sejong Fire Headquarters received the Grand Prize at the 6th Situation Management Best Practices Competition, which shares and evaluates outstanding response cases from 119 General Situation Rooms nationwide. The winning entry, "The Magic of Communication: A Life Saved by Video Call," was recognized as a case in which a citizen's life was saved.

This marks the second consecutive year that Sejong has received the Grand Prize, highlighting the Sejong 119 General Situation Room's excellence in rapid and accurate situational judgment and collaborative response within the golden hour during emergencies, and showcasing these capabilities nationwide.

Additionally, the Sejong City Autonomous Police Committee was recognized for its achievements in enhancing cooperative policing by operating the nation's first electric bicycle patrol team to eliminate blind spots in patrol coverage and expanding local resident participation through volunteer crime prevention groups. As a result, Sejong was selected for two consecutive years as an outstanding case in the autonomous police sector in the government joint evaluation. Sejong Police Agency, which works organically with the city to maintain public safety and order, ranked first nationwide (with a score of 81.04) in the National Police Agency's perceived safety survey last year, making Sejong recognized as the safest region in the country.

Mayor Choi stated, "Since taking office, I have regarded protecting the lives and safety of citizens as the most important duty of the city government," and added, "We will continue to thoroughly prepare in advance and respond swiftly to ensure proactive disaster safety management that citizens can truly feel."
