"Emphasizes Importance of Cooperation Between Central and Local Governments"
Kim Kyungsoo, Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Local Era, emphasized his determination to ensure the success of President Lee Jaemyung's pledges, the '5-Region 3-Special Balanced Development Strategy' and the 'Relocation of the Administrative Capital.'
On June 29, following the announcement of appointments to the Presidential Office by President Lee, Kim wrote on his Facebook account, "I have been appointed as Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Local Era, a body directly under the President, tasked with establishing and implementing the basic direction and related policies for decentralization and national balanced development," reiterating his commitment.
He stressed the promotion of inter-regional cooperation and the development of mega-cities in each region through the 5-Region 3-Special strategy. He added, "'Relocating the administrative capital to Sejong' is an initiative that will change the direction of the Republic of Korea and redesign the framework for national governance," emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the central and local governments.
Kim further stated that revitalizing local regions is essential for enhancing the competitiveness of the Seoul metropolitan area, emphasizing, "We will ensure the success of the dream of balanced development that President Roh Moo-hyun began, through the relocation of the administrative capital and a major transformation of national land use." He also pledged, "I will dedicate all the experience and insights I have gained from the Blue House, the National Assembly, local governments, and overseas, to build a greater Republic of Korea where everyone can prosper anywhere, and to ensure the happiness of all Korean people."
The '5-Region 3-Special' strategy is a plan to foster multiple growth hubs based on five economic regions and three special self-governing provinces, aiming to resolve the overconcentration in the Seoul metropolitan area and create a Republic of Korea where people can enjoy a high quality of life anywhere.
