Running Until October
Targeting 316 Participants
Namwon City in North Jeolla Province will officially operate the '2025 Visiting Drone Classroom'.
According to the city on June 30, this drone classroom has been prepared to increase citizens' accessibility to and utilization of drones, allowing students and citizens to become more familiar with drones through direct hands-on experiences.
After confirming positive feedback during the pilot operation in 2024, the city will significantly expand the number of participants this year and improve the quality of education by switching to a consignment operation with local professional education companies.
Additionally, based on last year's demand survey, educational demand was identified at 12 elementary and middle schools, senior welfare centers, and eup and myeon areas within the city. As requests to address generational educational gaps continued, this year's program will be expanded to include more participants and more sessions than last year.
The education program will run from this month through October, targeting a total of 316 participants at 15 locations. At the Namwon City Senior Welfare Center and the Eastern Senior Welfare Center, 50 middle-aged and senior citizens will receive basic drone theory and aerial photography experience training.
At nine elementary schools?Sujicho, Geumjicho, Yongseongcho, Wollakcho, Gyoryongcho, Woncheoncho, Seowoncho, Wangchicho, and Dotongcho?266 students will participate in various hands-on programs such as drone soccer, drone racing, and drone coding.
The education consists of customized courses tailored to citizens' needs, including a basic course, an advanced course, a course specialized for middle-aged and senior citizens, and a course specialized in video shooting, all based on both drone theory and practical training. An integrated educational environment will also be created, enabling seniors and students to experience technology together and communicate across generations.
In particular, the city plans to connect this training program so that participants can directly take part in the '2025 Namwon International Drone Festival', which will be held from October 16 to 19. The city will also establish a foundation to share educational outcomes at the festival site and expand into citizen-participation programs.
Meanwhile, the city launched the 'Visiting Drone Classroom' as a new project in 2024 and has been operating it for two years. In the first year, a total of 193 citizens?including 153 students at six elementary schools and 40 participants at two senior welfare centers?had the opportunity to experience drones.
