Former Daegu Mayor Hong Junpyo has posted a message criticizing the current political situation. He referenced statements by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato and former British Prime Minister and Nobel laureate Winston Churchill. Given his previous strong remarks about the People Power Party leadership, this is interpreted as a commentary on the upcoming primary and presidential election.

On June 30, Hong Junpyo introduced Plato's philosophy on his Facebook page, saying, "There was a sage who once proclaimed that if we are indifferent to politics, we will end up being governed by the basest of people."

He continued, "Even if we dislike politics, even if it is utterly repugnant, we cannot live apart from politics," adding, "However, Korean society today has become a world where the most base politicians mislead the public."

He went on to say, "People have leaders who match their own level. That is a quote from Winston Churchill. It is a rainy season morning that brings to mind the words of both Plato and Churchill," he added.

After declaring his departure from the People Power Party following his defeat in the presidential primary, Hong spent about a month resting in Hawaii. Through his communication channels, including "Dream of Youth" and Facebook, he has shared his thoughts on his political career and recent events. In particular, on June 28, regarding former President Yoon Sukyeol's appearance for questioning in the special investigation into insurrection, Hong remarked, "There have now been five presidents who were investigated and punished after leaving office," and added, "It is truly shameful and disgraceful."

He further stated, "All five were figures representing the Korean conservative camp," and questioned, "Even so, can the Korean conservative camp regain the public's trust without an unprecedented (Pacheonhwang - breaking chaos and creating a new world) innovation?"

He has not yet expressed a position regarding a return to politics or joining a political party. While refraining from commenting on speculation about joining the Reform New Party or rejoining the People Power Party, he said, "I am not in a hurry and will wait until the world calls for me again."
