An inspiring act of kindness has recently come to light in Changwon, Gyeongnam, where a high school student rescued a man in his seventies from a life-threatening situation and was awarded a commendation from a National Assembly member.
On May 31, at an apartment bathhouse in Seokjeon-dong, Masanhoewon-gu, Changwon Special City, a man in his seventies lost consciousness and collapsed. In this urgent situation, Cheon Seonghwan, a 17-year-old first-year student at Changwon Mechanical Technical High School, did not hesitate to jump into the bath, rescue the patient, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Thanks to Cheon's quick and precise first aid, the patient regained consciousness and was safely able to return to his family.
After news of this good deed spread, Changwon City Council member Hwang Jeombok personally recommended Cheon for a National Assembly commendation, which was awarded on June 26 to recognize his courage and civic spirit. The award ceremony was attended by Provincial Assembly member Jeong Heeseong and fire department officials who had responded to the scene, all offering enthusiastic applause and encouragement.
Cheon Seonghwan said, "I received CPR training at school when I was in middle school, and when I found the unconscious patient in the bathhouse, my body reacted instinctively. I feel very proud to have saved a neighbor and to have received a commendation. My friends also said they see me differently now and praised me."
