Up to 35,000 Won in Benefits When the Full Limit Is Used
The Daejeon city government announced that it will launch the local currency “Daejeon Sarang Card” on July 1, one month earlier than originally planned, in an effort to revitalize the local economy.
The Daejeon Sarang Card has a monthly purchase limit of 500,000 won, which is higher than the previous limit of 300,000 won, and provides 7% cashback on the amount spent. If users spend the full monthly limit, they can receive up to 35,000 won in benefits.
The card can be used at affiliated merchants in Daejeon with annual sales of 3 billion won or less, but it cannot be used at certain businesses such as department stores, large discount stores, and entertainment venues.
The city plans to closely analyze usage data for the month of July and is considering gradually raising the purchase limit further in the future.
In addition, to enhance user convenience and encourage more participation from small business owners, the city plans to expand the number of affiliated merchants, focusing on sectors closely related to daily life, such as traditional markets, restaurants, and hair salons.
To support this early launch, the city secured 5.2 billion won in national government funding for local currency through the first supplementary budget, and is in the process of allocating an additional 13 billion won from the local budget.
Furthermore, the city intends to secure its own matching funds in connection with the 600 billion won in national government support for local currency included in the second supplementary budget, and will prepare various measures to promote the Daejeon Sarang Card.
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, “We plan to mobilize every possible means at the city’s disposal to overcome the local economic crisis,” adding, “We are preparing strong measures so that all citizens, including small business owners, can feel tangible benefits.”
