Busan to Dispatch "ASEAN Trade Delegation" to Malaysia and Indonesia

Pursuing New Southern Markets in Line with Government Diplomacy
from July 28 to August 2

In order to explore export markets in Southeast Asia, the city of Busan will dispatch the "2025 ASEAN Trade Delegation" to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Jakarta, Indonesia, for six days from July 28 to August 2.

This trade delegation is hosted by the city and organized by the Busan Economic Promotion Agency, with participation from 10 local consumer goods SMEs whose export volume last year was less than $30 million. Participating companies will receive comprehensive support for all aspects necessary for the operation of the business meetings, including 50% of round-trip airfare (for one person per company), local transportation costs, venue rental, interpretation, and buyer matching.

A city official stated, "In line with the government's recent policy of strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation with major ASEAN countries, we will actively support Busan companies so that they can achieve tangible export results."

In Indonesia, meetings are being arranged with six genuine buyers, and in Malaysia, the number of buyers has been increased from three to six to enable more substantive export consultations. The participating items include food, cosmetics, hygiene products, and golf goods.

Last year, the city also dispatched a trade delegation to Malaysia and Indonesia, concluding 19 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and achieving contract negotiations worth an average of $1.25 million per company. This represents an increase of 181% compared to the previous year.

Kim Bongcheol, Director of the Digital Economy Bureau of Busan City, stated, "We expect this trade delegation to contribute not only to diversifying export markets for local companies but also to expanding practical cooperation with key Global South countries, whose strategic importance is growing." He emphasized, "In the rapidly changing global supply chain and amid international circumstances such as the US-China conflict, strengthening ties with ASEAN is a core task to prepare for the future of the regional economy."
