Change from "at least 500,000 KRW per transaction" to "at least 500,000 KRW per month in total"
Reflecting various employment types such as platform workers and freelancers... Vulnerable groups also eligible for financial benefits
Hana Bank announced on June 30 that, starting from July 1, it will ease its criteria for recognizing salary transfers in order to improve financial benefit accessibility for customers who have been in a blind spot under the previous standards. The criteria will be changed from "at least 500,000 KRW per transaction" to "a total of at least 500,000 KRW deposited per month."
Previously, only transactions with deposits of at least 500,000 KRW per transaction were recognized as salary transfers. With this change, deposits that total at least 500,000 KRW per month will also be recognized as salary transfers. If recognized for salary transfers, customers can receive various preferential financial benefits from Hana Bank, such as fee waivers and preferential interest rates.
This policy improvement is intended to provide broader financial benefits to customers who were previously excluded under the old criteria, such as platform workers in delivery, driving, and logistics, as well as freelancers, part-time workers, and those who receive their salaries irregularly or in split payments.
The revised criteria will also include vulnerable groups. For recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security benefits or disability allowances, the relevant benefit payments will be recognized as salary regardless of the amount, ensuring there is no discrimination in the provision of financial benefits.
To commemorate the implementation of this policy change, Hana Bank will also hold the "Hana Salary Grand Festival" event from July 15 to September 30.
For customers who have no previous salary transfer history with Hana Bank and are recognized for salary transfers for the first time this year, the first 10,000 customers will receive a preferential interest rate coupon of 0.2 percentage points per annum for the "Salary Hana Monthly Compound Savings" product, and the first 3,000 customers will be provided with cybercrime compensation insurance.
In addition, among event participants, prizes such as laptops, 30,000 Hana Money points, and CU gift certificates will be given away through a drawing.
A Hana Bank representative stated, "This relaxation of the salary transfer recognition criteria is part of our efforts to expand financial inclusion by reflecting various forms of employment and income structures," adding, "We will continue to implement effective policy improvements so that everyone can enjoy financial benefits without exclusion, thereby continuously practicing ESG management."
Meanwhile, according to Statistics Korea, last year, "short-term workers" who worked less than 36 hours per week accounted for about 30.8% of all workers, which is double the 15.4% recorded in 2014, ten years ago. This indicates that employment based on short-term contracts or projects is spreading, and forms of employment are becoming more diverse.
