Prosecutor in 'Lime Alcohol Entertainment' Case Has Fine Finalized After Dropping Appeal in Remanded Trial

According to the legal community on June 30, Kim Bonghyun, Na Euibyeop, and attorney Lee, a former prosecutor, who were sentenced to fines for violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, did not file an appeal against the remanded trial that imposed the fines. As a result, their sentences were finalized on June 27.

The Criminal Appellate Division 1 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Sunyeol) sentenced Na Euibyeop to a fine of 10 million won on June 19 in the remanded trial for violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act. Kim Bonghyun and Lee, who were present at the entertainment venue, were sentenced to fines of 3 million won and 10 million won, respectively.

According to the prosecution, Na Euibyeop was accused of receiving alcoholic entertainment worth more than 1 million won from Kim Bonghyun at an entertainment establishment in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in July 2019. Lee and Kim Bonghyun were accused of providing entertainment at the gathering.

Previously, both the first and second trials found that the value of entertainment received by Na Euibyeop was less than 1 million won and acquitted him. However, in October last year, the Supreme Court overturned the previous rulings, stating that the calculation of the entertainment value was incorrect, and returned the case to the Seoul Southern District Court with a guilty verdict.

On June 9 last month, the Ministry of Justice decided to impose a one-month suspension and a disciplinary surcharge of 3.49 million won on Na Euibyeop for damaging the dignity of his position. Two weeks after this decision, Na Euibyeop expressed his intention to resign.
