Gyeonggi Province to Accept Applications for Student Loan Interest Support Until August 14

Gyeonggi Province will begin accepting applications for the second half of the year for its student loan interest support program starting July 1, 2025.

The program covers interest on student loans from the Korea Student Aid Foundation that accrued between January and June 2025. The application deadline is August 14, 2025.

Eligible applicants include current university and graduate students (including those on leave of absence) and unemployed graduates who are repaying interest on tuition and living expense loans taken out since the second semester of 2009. However, students enrolled in the Academic Credit Bank System are excluded.

Graduates may apply within 10 years of graduation (for university) or within 4 years (for graduate school). On the date of application, the applicant or one direct family member (parent, grandparent, or maternal grandparent) must have continuously resided in Gyeonggi Province for at least one year, from July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025, as per the resident registration record.

Applications must be submitted directly by the applicant online or via mobile through the Gyeonggi Civil Service 24 website (gg24.gg.go.kr). If the applicant consents to administrative information sharing, the resident registration certificate and health insurance qualification certificate will be automatically linked. If the applicant does not meet the residency requirement, a family relationship certificate and the resident registration certificate of the qualifying direct family member must be submitted separately to verify the relationship and residency.

If support is granted, the interest will be deposited directly into the Korea Student Aid Foundation loan account by the end of December, not into the applicant's personal account, and will be deducted from the principal and interest.

For more details, applicants can refer to the announcement on the Gyeonggi Province website or contact the Gyeonggi Call Center (031-120). The details of the interest support can be checked on the Korea Student Aid Foundation website.

Meanwhile, in the first half of this year, Gyeonggi Province provided 1.87 billion won in support to approximately 19,000 individuals. Since 2010, the cumulative number of beneficiaries has reached 430,000, with a total of 31.3 billion won provided. Gyeonggi Province was the first in the nation to launch a student loan interest support program, and as of last year, 45.5% of all student loan interest support recipients nationwide were young residents of Gyeonggi Province.
