Achieved Just 4 Years and 4 Months After Ioniq 5 Launch

According to Hyundai Motor and Kia IR on June 29, as of last month, the cumulative global sales of Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicle models (limited to passenger cars) reached 1,024,948 units. This achievement comes four years and four months after Hyundai Motor launched its first dedicated electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5, in February 2021, surpassing the 1 million unit mark.

The cumulative sales of all electric vehicles, including dedicated EVs, also exceeded 2 million units, totaling 2,006,279 units. This milestone was achieved 15 years after Hyundai Motor Group introduced its first electric vehicle, the BlueOn, in 2011. Dedicated electric vehicles now account for more than half of the group's total EV sales just over four years after their initial launch.

Currently, Hyundai Motor Group offers a total of nine dedicated electric vehicle models based on its E-GMP platform: Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Ioniq 9; Kia EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6, and EV9; and Genesis GV60.

Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated EV sales began at 96,000 units in 2021, surged to 208,000 units in 2022, and reached 312,000 units in 2023. Last year, as the chasm intensified, sales slightly declined to 261,000 units. However, from January to May this year, the group sold 144,000 units?more than half of last year's annual sales?demonstrating continued growth.

The Ioniq 5, Hyundai's first dedicated electric vehicle, has established itself as a bestseller with cumulative global sales of 417,000 units. The Ioniq 5, which was named World Car of the Year in 2022, has recorded overseas cumulative sales of 330,000 units, accounting for 80% of its total sales. As of April this year, total sales of the entire Ioniq series?including the Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 9?reached 531,000 units.

Kia is accelerating its electrification transition with five EV series models. The EV series has sold a total of 465,000 units in the global market to date. The EV6, launched in 2021, has achieved sales of 280,000 units, while the compact EV3 and large EV9 were named World Car of the Year in 2024 and this year, respectively.

Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicles have also consistently ranked at the top in global safety evaluations. In March this year, the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, EV9, and GV60 electrified models received the TSP+ rating in crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States. Last year, the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, EV6, EV9, and GV60 electrified models all received the highest five-star rating from Euro NCAP, the European New Car Assessment Programme.
