Presidential Office Announces Appointment on the 29th
Kang Hoonshik: "Chairperson Kim is the Right Person for Balanced Development"
On June 29, President Lee Jaemyung appointed former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyungsoo as the chairperson of the Presidential Committee for the Local Era.
Kang Hoonshik, Chief Presidential Secretary, announced the appointment at a briefing held at the presidential office in Yongsan on the same day.
Kang stated, "Chairperson Kim has consistently emphasized the importance of balanced development and local autonomy," adding, "Based on his experience as a governor and a member of the National Assembly, he is the right person to swiftly implement the president's strategies for balanced development and promises for decentralization."
Kim participated in the Democratic Party's presidential primary during the last presidential election, competing against President Lee. In January, he also called on President Lee, who was then the Democratic Party leader, to apologize, stating, "Many people became disillusioned and left or distanced themselves from the party during the local and general elections held after the 2022 presidential election."
