According to the legal community on June 29, the Ministry of Justice held a parole review committee on June 23 and determined that Yoon was eligible for parole. As a result, Yoon is scheduled to be released on parole on June 30.

This comes approximately one year and ten months after prosecutors indicted Yoon in August 2023 on charges of violating the Political Parties Act. Under current law, those sentenced to a fixed-term imprisonment are eligible for parole after serving one-third of their sentence.

Yoon was brought to trial on charges of receiving a total of 60 million won from members of the election camp ahead of the Democratic Party’s convention in May 2021, with the intention of distributing the money to incumbent Democratic Party lawmakers to support the election of former party leader Song Younggil (age 62). In October of last year, the Supreme Court finalized his two-year prison sentence.
