Pohang City Signs Sisterhood Agreement with Navy Pohang... Strengthening Status as a Maritime Security and Cultural Hub

Establishing a Cooperative System for Mutual Growth Between Local Government and the Military
Strengthening Close Collaboration for Shared Development

On June 28, Pohang City signed a sisterhood agreement with the Republic of Korea Navy's 1st Fleet Command's Pohang (FFG), embarking on a path toward mutual development between the local government and the military as a hub of maritime culture and security cooperation.


The signing ceremony was held on the flight deck of the Pohang. The event was attended by Mayor Lee Kangdeok, City Council Chairman Kim Ilman, National Assembly Members Kim Jungjae and Lee Sanghwi, Commander of the 11th Combat Squadron Colonel Jeong Heenam, Pohang Captain Lieutenant Colonel Lee Junkyu, former and second captains of the Pohang, as well as other city and navy officials. Together, they strengthened a close cooperative system based on mutual trust.

The event included the signing and exchange of the sisterhood agreement, the presentation of commemorative plaques and framed photos, and a tour of the ship. With this agreement, both organizations plan to jointly promote exchange and cooperation activities, including: ▲mutual development through exchanges between the local government and the military, and ▲civil-military-government exchange visits to establish an integrated defense posture and enhance security awareness.


Pohang Captain Lee Junkyu stated, "I am pleased that this sisterhood agreement allows us to contribute to being a 'Navy together with the people.' I will strive to ensure that continued exchange activities with Pohang City will lead to a relationship that goes beyond cooperation to true mutual growth."


Mayor Lee Kangdeok said, "This alliance between two entities sharing the name Pohang will further solidify Pohang's identity as a key city for maritime security. Going forward, we will continue to pursue a variety of cooperative initiatives as a strong partner in protecting our citizens and nation alongside the military."


Pohang City has also signed sister city agreements with Gwangyang in Jeonnam, Buan County in Jeonbuk, Nowon District in Seoul, Suseong District in Daegu, Suwon in Gyeonggi, Seocho District in Seoul, Cheongsong County in Gyeongbuk, and Ulleung County in Gyeongbuk, maintaining active exchanges and ongoing mutual development with these cities.
