The 'Gyeongsangbuk-do Regional Tourism Linkage Promotion Ordinance,' proposed by Yeon Gyusik, a member of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly (People Power Party, Pohang 4), was finally passed at the 3rd plenary session of the 1st regular meeting of the 356th session on June 24.
The ordinance, proposed by Assembly Member Yeon Gyusik, focuses on several key points: the annual establishment and implementation of a regional tourism linkage promotion plan in accordance with the Gyeongbuk regional tourism development plan set under the Tourism Promotion Act; the creation and expansion of the foundation for regional tourism linkage; the development of content; promotion and marketing; training and capacity-building for professionals; the implementation of projects to promote regional tourism linkage; the establishment and operation of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Regional Tourism Linkage Policy Council; and the formation of cooperative systems with central government ministries, cities and counties, relevant organizations, and associations.
Yeon Gyusik emphasized, "Competition among regions to attract residents and tourists is intensifying, and the way tourists travel is changing due to the development of transportation and the collection of diverse tourism information, resulting in a demand for complex experiences, food, and attractions. In this context, the individual responses of each city and county have reached their limits."
He continued, "There is a growing need and justification for regional tourism linkage and the development of tourism themes by region within the province, as well as cost-sharing among cities and counties to promote balanced regional development. This requires an institutional foundation. I believe that the enactment of this ordinance, by linking tourism resources through cooperation among cities and counties in Gyeongsangbuk-do, will make a significant contribution to sustainable tourism and the development of the regional economy in Gyeongsangbuk-do."
Meanwhile, Yeon Gyusik has been actively working to find effective ways to promote tourism development in the province, including serving as the representative member of the 'Gyeongbuk East Coast Tourism Development Improvement Research Society' in the Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly.
