Israeli Military "Intercepts Missile from Yemen"... Houthis Attempt Attack on Bersheba

Yemen's Pro-Iranian Houthi Rebels Fire Missile
Attacks on Israel Continue Despite Ceasefire with United States
Israel: "Intercepted" VS Houthis: "Successful Strike"

The Israeli military announced that it intercepted a missile over southern airspace immediately after it entered Israeli airspace from Yemen. In contrast, the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are known to be pro-Iranian, claimed that they had "successfully struck" their target.

The local daily Times of Israel reported that on June 28 (local time), the Israeli military intercepted a missile launched from Yemen. As the missile entered Israeli airspace that morning, air raid sirens sounded in major southern cities such as Bersheba, Dimona, and Arad. The Israeli military stated that it activated its 'air defense network' to intercept the missile.

Israeli Military "Intercepts Missile from Yemen"... Houthis Attempt Attack on Bersheba

The Yemeni Houthi rebels claimed that the attack specifically targeted Israel's "sensitive sites." Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Houthis, said in a statement that day, "We launched a ballistic missile at a sensitive target in Bersheba," and asserted that they had "successfully struck" the target.

Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis have repeatedly launched missile and drone attacks against Israel, citing solidarity with the Palestinians as their justification. In particular, since March, the Houthis have been the focus of U.S.-led airstrikes. Although they declared a ceasefire with the United States and halted attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea in early May, they have continued their attacks on Israel.
