Special Prosecutor's Team Aims to Hold Official Plaque-Hanging Ceremony on July 2
The special prosecutor's team led by Min Jungki, which is investigating various allegations related to former President Yoon Suk Yeol's wife, Kim Keon Hee, has officially taken over the so-called "Myung Taegyun allegations" case.
The civic group Solidarity for Establishing Judicial Justice (Saehaeng), which filed complaints against former President Yoon, his wife, and Myung, announced on June 28, "All cases related to the 'Myung Taegyun Gate' that were reported to the prosecution have been transferred to the Kim Keon Hee special prosecutor as of June 27."
This comes about four months after the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's dedicated investigative team for the Myung Taegyun allegations received the case from the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office in February.
The prosecution has been investigating suspicions that, during the 2022 20th presidential election, former President Yoon and his wife received free public opinion polling services from Myung, and in return, former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Youngsun was nominated as a candidate in the June 1 parliamentary by-election that year.
The cases transferred to the special prosecutor also include suspicions that Myung was involved in the selection process for the Changwon National Industrial Complex, a key local issue, and that he provided free public opinion polling services in favor of Mayor Oh Sehoon during the April 7, 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election.
The special prosecutor's team is currently reviewing records and receiving case files from major investigative agencies, aiming to hold an official plaque-hanging ceremony on July 2.
