A pedestrian in her 70s was fatally struck by a city bus after failing to completely cross a crosswalk while the pedestrian signal was on.

According to the Bukbu Police Station in Gwangju on June 28, at approximately 7:56 a.m. that day, a city bus hit a woman in her 70s, identified as Ms. A, who was crossing a crosswalk at an intersection in Munheung-dong, Buk-gu. She was transported to the hospital but died.

Investigations revealed that Ms. A began crossing the crosswalk when the pedestrian signal was on, but was unable to finish crossing before the signal changed. The bus driver, who was making a left turn after receiving a left-turn signal, failed to notice Ms. A who was still on the crosswalk.

The police have booked the bus driver on charges of manslaughter under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling and plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident.
