On June 28, the police refuted the claim made by former President Yoon Sukyeol's side that "Chief Superintendent Park Changhwan, head of the Major Crimes Investigation Division, was the person who directed the illegal arrest," stating, "This is not true."
The Special Investigation Team of the National Office of Investigation at the National Police Agency stated, "Chief Superintendent Park was not present at the scene during the execution of the first arrest warrant for former President Yoon. During the execution of the second arrest warrant, he went to the scene to execute arrest warrants for Kim Sunghoon, former Deputy Chief of the Presidential Security Service, and Lee Kwangwoo, Chief of the Security Headquarters."
The special counsel for the insurrection case questioned former President Yoon starting at 10:14 a.m. on this day regarding allegations that, on January 3, he instructed the Presidential Security Service to block the execution of an arrest warrant by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials.
This investigation was led by Chief Superintendent Park. Park Jiyoung, special counsel for the insurrection case, stated, "He has led this investigation from the beginning and therefore understands it better than anyone," adding, "I want to emphasize that this decision was made solely based on investigative logic and efficiency."
Former President Yoon's side protested the fact that a prosecutor did not participate in the investigation. They argued that since police officials were reported for involvement in the illegal arrest, and Chief Superintendent Park is among those reported, it is "tantamount to a perpetrator investigating a victim."
