Uijeongbu City to Rename City Hall Buildings and Meeting Rooms Starting in July

Reorganizing Spaces to Meet Citizens' Needs

Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Donggeun) announced on June 28 that, starting July 1, it will standardize the names of city hall buildings and meeting rooms to make them easier for citizens to recognize at a glance.

This measure was implemented in response to citizens' feedback that the existing system?main building, new building, and annex?was confusing, especially with the addition of the "Parking Management Division Annex" located outside city hall. The city also took this step to prepare for future expansion needs.

Accordingly, the building names will be changed as follows: Annex will become Annex 1, New Building will become Annex 2, and Parking Management Division Annex will become Annex 3. In addition, reflecting welfare policies, the Multipurpose Facility will be renamed "Everyone's Playground."

Alongside these changes, the names of meeting rooms within city hall have been updated to strengthen local identity, drawing inspiration from the origin of the name "Uijeongbu," which refers to the place where King Taejo Yi Seonggye discussed state affairs with his officials upon returning to the palace. The city also considered feedback that the previous names?such as Situation Room and Disaster Situation Room?made it difficult for attendees to find their way.

The meeting rooms will be newly designated to reflect the characteristics and significance of each space: the Auditorium will become Taejo Hall, the Situation Room will become Uijeong Hall, the Medium Conference Room will become Hoeryong Hall, the Small Conference Room will become Jikgok Hall, and the Annex Meeting Room will become Mangwoljeong.

To reduce costs, the city plans to incorporate these name changes into the signage updates scheduled for the organizational restructuring in the second half of the year (effective July 1).

Furthermore, the city is transforming the entire city hall into a space focused on communication and collaboration, while also making changes to how existing spaces are used. Since May, the Medium Conference Room, during unused hours, has been opened as a music-filled, cafe-style lounge, allowing both staff and visiting citizens to relax and take a break.

Park Jaebeom, Head of the Accounting Division, stated, "We decided to implement these changes in response to citizens who experienced inconvenience due to confusion over city hall names," adding, "We will strengthen our promotional efforts so that citizens can use the city hall more conveniently in the future."
