Yeosu City, led by Mayor Chung Kimyung, actively promoted its bid to host ICRTH 2027 by participating in the 'International Conference on Responsible Tourism and Hospitality 2025 (ICRTH 2025)', which was held at LPU University in the Philippines from June 16 to June 19.
The city, together with the Tourism Industry Data Analytics Lab (TIDAL) of Sejong University, held discussions with key ICRTH officials and proposed Seoul and Yeosu as potential host cities for the next conference. ICRTH officials are scheduled to visit Yeosu in July to inspect event venues and tourism infrastructure, and the final host city for the 2027 conference will be announced in August.
The city also visited the Manila branch of the Korea Tourism Organization and the Korean travel and tourism company IRC (Island Resort Club) to introduce Yeosu's MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) infrastructure and incentives, securing active cooperation for the promotion of Yeosu tourism and MICE events.
A city official stated, "This year, various international events, including the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, are scheduled to be held in Yeosu," adding, "We will further expand strategic MICE marketing activities targeting multiple countries in line with the global Korean Wave trend."
Meanwhile, the 'International Conference on Responsible Tourism and Hospitality (ICRTH)' is an international academic conference where tourism experts from around the world gather to share strategies for sustainable tourism development. It is co-hosted by the Sarawak Research Society (SRS) of Malaysia and REBORN (Responsible Borneo), with support from various organizations including UN Tourism and the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts. The conference was first held in 2021 and is now in its fifth edition this year.
