"Create the subject you want to study yourself!"
On June 27, Gyeongnam Information College announced that it recently held the "KIT Liberal Arts Course Contest I Created," in which students propose their own liberal arts courses that they wish to take.
Now in its third year, the contest aims to break down academic barriers and allow learners to directly combine and propose the courses they want, with the goal of actually opening these courses. A total of 31 course proposals were submitted in a variety of fields, including social sciences, humanities, arts, natural sciences, self-development, digital studies, and economics.
The grand prize was awarded to Lee Younghwa from the Department of Environmental Landscape Design for "Understanding and Practicing Urban Agriculture: Companion Plant Care and Practice." The top excellence award went to Jang Yonghyun from the Department of Physical Therapy for "World History Through the Lens of War." The excellence award was given to Bae Seonsuk from the Department of Digital Literary Creation for the humanities-based course "The Art Museum Next Door."
Additionally, the encouragement awards were given to Yoon Sieon from the Department of Electrical Engineering ("Learning English Conversation through Screens and SNS"), Ko Nyeonggyun from the Department of Clinical Pathology ("Self-Design and Identity in the Digital Age"), Heo Dawon from the Department of Occupational Therapy ("Law in Everyday Life: Understanding Labor and Housing Contracts"), and Kim Haerim from the Department of Early Childhood Education ("Reading Modern Culture and Myself through Film").
The college has already opened and operated courses proposed by students, such as "Building Knowledge through Travel" from the first contest in 2023, and "Using Digital Tools in Everyday Life (Living Digitally with a Smartphone)," which was a winning entry in the second contest.
Lee Sunguk, Dean of Academic Affairs, said, "The number of participants in the contest increases every year, and more students are expressing interest in taking the courses that have been created through this contest. Gyeongnam Information College will continue to develop programs that reflect learners' needs, enhance satisfaction with liberal arts education, and maximize student-led learning."
The award ceremony for the 3rd Liberal Arts Course Contest I Created is being held at Gyeongnam Information College.
