Discussion on Aquaculture Technology and Climate Response Cooperation with Governor Shin Woochul
"Expecting Expansion of International Cooperation in the Marine Industry through KOICA Collaboration"
Wando County in South Jeolla Province announced on the 27th that Togolani Edris Mabura, Tanzanian Ambassador to Korea, recently visited the county to tour seaweed farms and discuss plans for technical cooperation.
This visit was prompted by Wando County Governor Shin Woochul's special lecture at the 'World Bank Global Seaweed Summit' held in Busan in May. At that time, Governor Shin established a connection with officials from Tanzania's Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.

Ambassador Mabura, accompanied by his economic advisor, toured Wando's seaweed aquaculture sites and held talks with Governor Shin. They discussed various areas of cooperation, including the transfer of aquaculture technology for the development of Tanzania's seaweed industry, responses to climate change, and the conservation of marine ecosystems.
Ambassador Mabura stated, "I will actively promote a visit by Wando County to Tanzania to facilitate ongoing exchanges of aquaculture technology and the development of seaweed varieties suitable for export." Tanzania mainly cultivates the cottonii and spinosum seaweed varieties, which are used to produce carrageenan, an additive for food and pharmaceuticals. The country is currently carrying out various economic and social development cooperation projects in partnership with KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency).
Governor Shin Woochul said, "We are presented with an opportunity to expand the future value of seaweed and advance the seaweed industry," adding, "We plan to build a global network and continue cooperation."
Meanwhile, Wando County has recently been drawing attention as a center for seaweed, with visits from representatives of the World Bank (WB), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and officials from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
