Four cities and provinces in the Chungcheong region have conducted their first joint training to strengthen their response capabilities in the event of a domestic outbreak of measles, which is classified as a second-degree notifiable infectious disease.

According to the provincial government, on the 26th, the Chungcheong Regional Disease Response Center hosted the "2025 Chungcheong Region (Chungnam, Daejeon, Sejong, Chungbuk) Local Government Epidemiological Investigation Team Training" at the Government Daejeon Complex, with participation from around 80 local government epidemiological investigators.

The training simulated a domestic outbreak of measles caused by an imported case from overseas, and covered the entire process of preventing community spread, including: understanding the roles of each institution, conducting appropriate tests for suspected cases, carrying out effective epidemiological investigations, and investigating and managing contacts.

As of May 31, the number of measles cases in Korea was 61, which is 1.3 times higher than the 47 cases reported during the same period last year.

Among the infection routes, 44 cases (41 from Vietnam, 1 from Uzbekistan, 1 from Thailand, and 1 from Italy) were imported from overseas, accounting for 72.1%. The remaining cases were also found to be related to imported cases.

Among the patients, 47 (77%) were adults aged 19 or older, and 35 responded that they either had not been vaccinated against measles or did not know their vaccination status.

Yoo Hoyul, Director of the Provincial Health Policy Division, stated, "Epidemiological investigations are activities aimed at identifying the scale of outbreaks and tracing sources of infection to prevent and contain the spread of infectious diseases, so training to strengthen actual response capabilities is crucial." He added, "We will continue to protect the health and lives of our residents more safely from infectious diseases through ongoing and systematic participation in simulation training."
