Chungnam Office of Education Holds Training to Promote Island Awareness Education

Chungnam to Hold "2025 Island Awareness Education Revitalization Training"
for Teachers and Education Professionals on June 27-28

The Chungnam Provincial Office of Education announced that it will hold the "2025 Island Awareness Education Revitalization Training" for two days, from June 27 to 28, in the Boryeong and Taean regions. The program targets more than 50 teachers and education professionals from schools across the province.

This training aims to broaden participants' understanding of island awareness by inviting experts in islands and marine environments, including those from the Island Promotion Agency and the National Institute of Marine Ecology. It also seeks to enhance the expertise of teachers regarding the current state of the marine environment and the preservation of marine ecosystems.

In particular, as part of experiential learning activities related to islands and the ocean, participants will have opportunities such as mudflat fishing at Saetbyeol Beach. These activities are designed to deepen participants' understanding of the marine ecosystem and foster greater interest and familiarity with islands and the ocean.

Additionally, the program will introduce methods for utilizing educational resources on island awareness developed by the provincial office, provide hands-on practice for applying these resources in the classroom, and share case studies on the operation of "leading schools for island awareness education revitalization," which are currently being conducted at 31 elementary, middle, and high schools.

Jung Eunyoung, Director of the Department of Elementary Special Education at the provincial office, stated, "It is very important for teachers to recognize the significance of the marine environment and ecosystem preservation and to educate students about these topics." She added, "We hope to continuously conduct training that raises interest in the islands and ocean of Chungnam, and to further expand island awareness education."
