Selected for Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project
Building a Cultural Welfare Care System with Resident and Business Participation
A cultural welfare care project, involving collaboration between residents and businesses, will be launched in the old residential area of Mabuk-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do.
On June 27, Yongin City announced that the Guseong·Mabuk-dong Urban Regeneration Activation Area, centered around 304 Mabuk-dong, has been selected for the foundation-building phase of Gyeonggi-do's '2025 Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project' public contest.
With this selection, the city will invest a total of 646 million won?including 298 million won from the provincial government and 348 million won from the city budget?into a regeneration project themed 'Connecting People, Spaces, and Culture (IT;DA)'. The project will run from next year through 2027.
To enhance the quality of the project, the city signed a business agreement with the Mabuk Research Complex Business Council to promote urban regeneration and encourage participation from local private companies. Through this initiative, the city plans to collaborate with civic groups composed of local residents to propose a resident-led cultural welfare care model and establish a framework for regional revitalization and sustainable local management.
The project consists of three main themes: 'Connecting Culture', which will create culture-focused community hubs by utilizing idle spaces and local resources; 'Connecting the Region', which will experiment with town management and establish collaborative management systems; and 'Connecting Everyone', which will establish governance operations and an integrated business support system.
The area will feature 'Samsamo', an open space for resident interaction; 'Slow Art Room', a culture and arts-based care venue; 'One Step Lab'; and an 'On-site Support Center'. The remodeling of Yongin Hyanggyo, a cultural heritage site within the project district, will also be carried out in conjunction with the project.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "Establishing a collaborative system with surrounding businesses to create spaces for resident culture and communication is highly significant," adding, "We will continue to expand quality spaces for citizens by participating in various public projects in the future."
