On June 27, Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters to strengthen fire safety in aging public rental housing.
This agreement was established to enhance the safety of aging rental housing, which faces a high risk of fire due to insufficient fire protection facilities such as sprinklers and the deterioration of buildings. In addition, effective response measures will be prepared to protect vulnerable residents, such as elderly people living alone, who are particularly at risk from fires.
The two organizations plan to pursue a range of collaborative initiatives, including: improving and expanding fire protection facilities in aging rental housing; providing fire prevention education and conducting joint drills for residents; and cooperating on improvements to fire safety regulations, policy development, and information sharing.
Hwang Sangha, President of SH Corporation, stated, "This is a proactive measure to ensure the safety of residents in aging rental housing," and added, "Through cooperation between the two organizations, we will establish a tangible fire safety environment that residents can truly experience."
