Culture Ministry to Operate "Cultural Tourism Festival Pop-up Store" in Seongsu-dong

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on June 27 that, together with the Korea Tourism Organization, it will host a "Cultural Tourism Festival Pop-up Store" in Seongsu-dong, Seoul from June 28 to 30 to widely promote cultural tourism festivals. The pop-up store will be held twice, with the second event scheduled for August 14 to 20.

The first pop-up store will focus on the "Daegu Chimac Festival," which is scheduled to take place in July. The space will be designed around the theme of the "Guseokguseok Truck," allowing visitors to experience the Daegu Chimac Festival in advance and enjoy it by completing a "Chimac Delivery Operation" game mission in a truck-shaped interactive content area. Participants will also receive commemorative gifts.

The second pop-up store will feature eight festivals: the Daegu Chimac Festival, the Geumsan World Ginseng Festival, the Gimje Horizon Festival, the Gwangju Kimchi Festival, and other cultural tourism festivals selected through a public contest, as well as festivals near areas affected by wildfires in North Gyeongsang Province such as the Andong Mask Dance Festival, the Sancheong Herbal Medicine Festival, the Yeongju Punggi Ginseng Festival, and the Cheongsong Apple Festival. Visitors can choose the cultural tourism festival they are interested in and complete missions based on each festival's game-type content.

The Ministry stated that it plans to encourage visits to festival venues and regional tourist attractions, and to revitalize the local economy by offering visitors a chance to win a "Short-cut Trip," a one-night, two-day travel package, through a prize draw. In addition, during the first event period, the Ministry will offer free table vouchers for the Daegu Chimac Festival (10 vouchers for four-person tables are planned), and during the second event period, "Village Vacation Travel Vouchers" will be given to visitors of the Geumsan Ginseng Festival pop-up store.

Information about the pop-up store schedule and other details can be found on the Korea Tourism Organization's official website and the "Realworld" application.

Kim Junghoon, Director General for Tourism Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "This pop-up store, which promotes cultural tourism festivals that have become a leading content of Korean tourism, will be held in Seongsu-dong, a top destination not only for locals but also for visitors to Korea." He added, "We hope this event will help make cultural tourism festivals the most sought-after tourism content for visitors to Korea."
